The air fryer is such a great appliance when you want that fried goodness without all the oil. This is one of those recipes where you don’t miss the oil. These air-fried cheese curds are everything I want in a fried snack without the extra calories from the oil.

On our last trip to Costco, my hubby grabbed a bag of local cheese curd. I love cheese so I was all in but started thinking would it fry. The answer is a resounding yes and all family members loved it.

I was burned years ago when frying with oil so I decided that I could only those delicious fried crunchy yumminess eating out. Until my Mother-in-Law bought me an Airfryer. So I can have fried cheese curds for a snack, appetizer, or side dish anytime I want.

The double panko is the secret sauce to these air-fried cheese curds. Check out my video on my kitchen gadgets to see why I use pie tins for my dredging station. It’s a pretty standard dredge operation using flour, eggs, and panko with parmesan and seasoning. I would pair a marinara sauce with this recipe because it has Italian seasoning and parmesan. Make this your own by changing up the seasonings in the panko and then creating a dipping sauce. Here is a great recipe for a marinara dipping sauce.

Replace your fries with cheese curds on your next burger night. If you want to make everyone happy, do a mix of fries and curds. Trust me, your family will love you for this!

Equipment

  • Airfryer

Ingredients

  • 6 oz cheese curds in 1-1/2" pieces
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/8 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley-minced
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Instructions

  • Combine panko, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, parsley, salt and pepper in a pie tin or shallow dish.
  • In second pie tin whisk the eggs.
  • In third pie tin add the flour.
  • Roll cheese curd in the flour and shake off excess, then roll in egg mixture and lastly into the panko mixture. Make sure it is fully coated each time and shake off the excess.
  • Dip cheese curd back into egg and then into panko mixture. Pressing a little to get the coating to stick better.
  • Spray cheese curds and then add them to your airfryer. My airfryer has trays not a basket. Doing more than 1 tray just rotate the trays after a couple of minutes. Don't overcrowd your tray/basket.
  • Fry at 400' for 6 minutes flipping halfway through until you get your desired brownness. I did have some curds that started to melt but that just gives the rustic look.

Notes

Change the seasoning in the panko if you want to have it as part of a cohesive meal.
Make or buy your favorite dipping sauce like marinara, honey mustard or the favorite ranch.  I enjoyed them without any sauce.
