What’s Growing in My Arizona Garden

What’s Growing in My Arizona Garden

There’s always something growing in my Arizona garden, and that’s half the fun of deciding what’s for dinner. From daikon radishes and Swiss chard to carrots, tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and whatever else decides to thrive, I love walking outside to see what’s ready to pick. My garden isn’t just something I enjoy growing—it’s an extension of my kitchen and often the inspiration behind what I cook.

Growing Through the Arizona Seasons

Gardening in Arizona has taught me to pay attention to the seasons and appreciate whatever is thriving at the moment. Some vegetables surprise me, while others become garden favorites that I look forward to growing again. I love watching everything develop from tiny seedlings into vegetables that eventually make their way into my kitchen.

From the Garden to the Kitchen

This is my favorite part—harvest day. There’s something incredibly satisfying about filling a colander with vegetables I’ve grown myself and then deciding what to make with them. Carrots, tomatoes, peppers, beans, herbs, and greens don’t have to travel far around here. Sometimes I have a recipe planned, and other times I let whatever is ready in the garden decide what’s for dinner.

Swiss Chard: From Garden to Dinner

Swiss chard is one of those vegetables I love having in the garden because it’s just as beautiful as it is useful in the kitchen. Those big green leaves and colorful stems add so much life to the garden, and when it’s time to harvest, I get to turn something I grew into something delicious. I’ve even used my garden-grown Swiss chard in one of the recipes here on Meats-Beets-Bubbles.

What Will the Garden Inspire Next?

That’s what I love most about having a garden—I never quite know what will inspire the next meal. Sometimes I plant something with a recipe already in mind, and sometimes the garden decides for me. Either way, there’s something pretty special about walking outside, picking what’s ready, and turning it into dinner. I’m always looking forward to seeing what grows next.
