Debby K’S Blue Margarita
This Debby K’s Blue Margarita is salty-sweet and fun. I love the salt and sugar on the rim. The fun comes with an added umbrella and blueberry garnish. A vacation in a glass.
There is a backstory to this cocktail. I was the “snack lady” at our VBS this year and one of my friends whom the cocktail is named after teased me about a cocktail pairing for one of the snacks I made. The snack was a blue jello sea creature snack with a whipped cream wave. I am known to post cocktails on my Facebook and that is where the teasing comes from. Naturally, I welcome a good challenge, so this is what I came up with.
I still feel like I’m new to the cocktail world although it’s been about 18 months since I mixed my first CoVid beverage. So, I am still learning about cocktail ingredients. Since I haven’t used blue curacao until this cocktail, I needed to do my research. Blue Curacao is a liquor flavored with the dried peel from bitter orange laraha, which is a citrus fruit grown in the Dutch island of Curacao. The flavor is bittersweet orange. It’s naturally colorless so it’s given an artificial color.
This is the perfect cocktail for a party or happy hour, especially by the pool. Make a pitcher or just 1 serving but beware when your guests see this you will be sorry you didn’t make a pitcher. Instead of the standard margarita glass serve Debby K’s Blue Margarita in a martini glass.
