Leftover Turkey Swiss Panini
If you’re looking for a delicious way to use up your leftover Thanksgiving turkey, a turkey Swiss panini is an excellent choice. This simple yet flavorful sandwich is a great way to transform your leftover turkey into a mouthwatering meal.
To make a turkey Swiss panini, start by gathering your ingredients. You’ll need some leftover turkey, Swiss cheese, bread (preferably ciabatta or sourdough), mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, fig or apricot jam and butter. To assemble, begin by spreading a thin layer of mayonnaise and Dijon mustard on one side of each bread slice. This will add a tangy and creamy element to the sandwich. Then, layer the turkey slices and Swiss cheese on top of one bread slice. The combination of tender turkey and nutty Swiss cheese creates a delightful flavor profile.
Once you’ve assembled the sandwich, it’s time to cook it. Preheat a panini press or a skillet over medium heat. If you’re using a skillet, place a heavy pan or a brick wrapped in aluminum foil to press down the sandwich. This will help create those beautiful grill marks and ensure that the cheese melts perfectly. When the panini press or skillet is hot, carefully transfer the sandwich onto it. If you’re using a skillet, make sure to flip the sandwich halfway through to ensure even cooking.
This is the panini press I use. The price is excellent, and it doesn’t take up a lot of space. It’s perfect for making 2 sandwiches at a time.
Cook the panini for about 3-4 minutes on each side. Until the bread is toasted and the cheese is melted and gooey. Once your panini is done, remove it from the heat and let it cool for a minute or two. This will prevent you from burning your mouth and give the flavors a chance to meld together.
Now, take a bite of your warm, crispy panini, and let the flavors burst in your mouth. The combination of the savory turkey, creamy Swiss cheese, and tangy condiments creates a symphony of flavors. Serve your turkey Swiss panini with a side of sweet potato fries or a simple green salad for a complete and satisfying meal. The panini also pairs well with a cup of tomato soup for those colder days, making it the perfect comfort food.
So, the next time you find yourself with leftover turkey, don’t settle for a plain turkey sandwich. Elevate leftovers with a turkey Swiss panini and enjoy a delicious and satisfying meal that will make you forget you’re eating leftovers.
